Na das sind doch mal erfreuliche Nachrichten aus dem Hause Acer. In einem Interview mit Laptopmag gibt Acers Sumit Agnihotry (Vice President of Product Marketing) einige sehr klare Statements zur kommenden Netbook Strategie des Netbook Marktfuehrers ab. NVIDIA Ion und Linux sind hier die herausragenden Punkte, welche mich angesichts meiner doch sehr ernuechternden ersten Eindruecke des Aspire One D150 durchaus milde stimmen^^:
Sumit erklaert, dass Acer die Entwicklung der NVIDIA Ion Plattform genauestens verfolgt und bereits zur 2. Jahreshaelfte diese in Produkten verarbeiten will:
On the Nvidia solution, the benefits are great including the ability to play back high def content. You will see us looking at this technology much closer in our second half products.
Good Job Acer und Nvidia. Der Markt braucht mehr Auswahl und es ist schoen zu sehen, dass nach der recht konservativen 2. Acer Netbook Generation, nun wieder ein wenig Innovation und Progressivitaet bei Acer Einzug haelt.
Stichwort Linux. Fuer mich persoenlich ist die Linpus Lite Edition, bzw. das Frontend eines der innovativsten auf den aktuellen Netbooks und wenn ich mir die Aussage von Sumit betrachte, setze ich in der Tat grosse Hoffnungen in Acers Bemuehungen, Linux auch weiterhin in den Endkundenmarkt zu druecken:
It is interesting because when we first launched the netbook it was with the Linux environment and there are, of course, a lot of benefits to it including fast boot up and a simpler interface. But the critical mass seems to be set on XP. The biggest challenge is getting the message out on Linux; it is just not as familiar to mainstream consumers. It will still continue to be only 5 percent of the total mix. One of our pain points with Linux we have found out about is that customers don’t feel that they have the security that they have in XP. It is really just getting the message out there.
Generell scheint Acer sich nun wirklich ein wenig zu bewegen, was bisher doch eher durch eine agressive Preispolitik geschah. Mobile Computing, Netbooks und der gesamte Markt benoetigt innovative Impulse und ich wuerde mir wuenschen, dass der Netbook Marktfuehrer hiervon einige gibt.
