Die ARM Plattformen kommen und wer meint, fuer $199 kann es kein vernuenftig verarbeitetes Netbook erwerben, sollte sich den Pegatron Prototyp mal anschauen. Natuerlich ist die CPU nicht x86 kompatibel aber was solls, es gibt ja einige Linux Distros, die damit umgehen koennen. 8 Stunden Akkulaufzeit und ein verdammt geiles Design runden diesen Preiskiller und dank Xavier von Notebooks.com, koennen wir euch auch erste Fotos und Videos zeigen:

AUSTIN, Texas – Jan. 5, 2009 – Freescale Semiconductor enters the fast-growing netbook market with a comprehensive solution designed to enable netbooks that feature 8.9 inch displays, deliver eight hours of battery life between charges and retail at sub-$200 price points.
Based on the new i.MX515 processor featuring ARM Cortex™-A8 technology, Freescale’s solution includes an impressive lineup of software, components and resources to help OEMs quickly develop and deploy compelling netbook products.
A comprehensive netbook reference design based on the i.MX515 processor is available now. Created in concert with Pegatron, the reference design features the i.MX515 processor, Canonical’s Ubuntu® operating system, a new power management IC from Freescale, the SGTL5000 ultra low-power audio codec and Adobe® Flash® Lite™ software, Adobe’s Flash Player for mobile phones and devices.
“We see a huge opportunity in the netbook market as consumers demand more cost-effective and higher performing solutions,” said Lisa Su, senior vice president and general manager of Freescale’s Networking and Multimedia Group. “Our solution for netbooks will enable OEMs to develop compelling products that feature cell phone-like battery life at extremely aggressive price points. We believe the combination of the i.MX515 processor and related enablement solutions will dramatically accelerate the evolution of this exciting new space.”
According to analyst firm ABI Research, consumers are expected to purchase 140 million netbooks in 2013, compared with only 15 million sold in 2008. Often priced between $300 and $400 (USD), netbooks are streamlined, embedded devices that provide more than enough performance for a host of Internet-based activities such as social networking, surfing the Web, using e-mail and other common tasks.
“As was evident in the 2008 holiday season, the netbook market has exploded due to consumer demand for affordable and compact devices that allow users to conduct routine tasks like social networking or shopping on the Web,” said Philip Solis, principal analyst at ABI Research. “The netbook market is still in its infancy, and it represents a huge market opportunity for companies like Freescale. As advanced platforms for netbooks become increasingly available, price points will drop and the market will expand.”
Unleashing ARM technology for netbook markets
Integrating an ARM Cortex-A8 core and manufactured using 65-nm process technology, Freescale’s new i.MX515 provides up to 2100 Dhrystone MIPS and can scale in performance from 600MHz to 1GHz. Advanced power management features included in the i.MX515 processor, such as a dedicated, hardware-based video acceleration block, allow for extended battery life and eliminate the need for fans or heat sinks.
By incorporating highly integrated devices and low-cost printed circuit boards, the Freescale solution is engineered to keep bill of materials low. In addition, the i.MX515 supports cost efficiency by featuring a memory interface supporting both DDR2 and mobile DDR1. While mobile DDR1 is ideal for the most power sensitive mobile Internet devices, DDR2 is better suited for netbooks as it provides low power at significantly less cost. Although the i.MX515 offers support for both, many competing Cortex-A8 platform options available today only offer mobile DDR1, limiting designers’ options to maximize cost savings.
The i.MX51 is one of the only processors to offer both OpenVG and OpenGL graphics cores, thereby enabling 2D and 3D graphics as well as Flash and SVG for enhanced user experiences. Video created for the Adobe Player is one of the leading video formats on the Internet today. Working with Adobe, Freescale plans to enable the Adobe software to run on the processor’s dedicated OpenVG graphics block, thereby extending battery life and enabling netbook web browsing experiences as rich and responsive as those on traditional PCs.
New netbook power management technology from Freescale
A key component of Freescale’s netbook solution is the new MC13982 power management IC. Integrating a variety of discrete functions into a single device, the MC13982 contributes to reduced size and weight of end products while extending their battery life through innovative power management and control features. The device incorporates a battery charging system, four adjustable buck converters for powering the processor core and memory, two boost converters for LCD backlighting, and RGB LED displays along with serial backlighting drivers for display and keypad.

Availability
Freescale’s netbook reference design is available now. The company is currently sampling the i.MX515 processor and MC13982 power management device to tier one netbook customers. Volume production for the i.MX515 device is planned for Q2 2009 to power netbooks designed for the 2009 holiday shopping season.

Das Teil wird ein Renner, da bin ich mir ziemlich sicher. Für 150 Euronen kauf ich das auf jeden Fall.
vom Design her kann er es locker mit dem Sony aufnehmen, aber für ein 1/5 des Preises…

Das Ding ist wenigstens ein RICHTIGES Netbook. Das vermisse ich bei den heutigen Modellen ein wenig. Das Ding ist sowas von gekauft.

das ist ma was feines … hier wird einfach ein reines netbook angeboten zu einem unschlagbaren preis. ich denke für inet, office, video, flash games und musik völlig ausreichend. das design ist mal der hammer und die qualität ja angeblich auch … was will man mehr für 149€ ^^

Also vom Design her ist es wirklich das schönste Netbook welches ich bisher gesehen habe (also das schwarze). Selbst wenn die Akkulaufzeit nur 6Stunden betragen würde, würde ich es für 200Tacken kaufen.
In dem ersten Video haben sie ja gezeigt, dass es ein 720p Video abspielen kann. So für die Uni wäre das wirklich optimal, hoffe es kommt auch nach D
ARM-Prozessor hat ausreichend Leistung für Video-Wiedergabe. Fanless sollte das Teil zu 99% sein und somit sicher sehr sparsam.
In PDAs ist ja auch kein Fan drinnen.

So in das selbe Gehäuse bitte einen 10″ einbauen … oder doch größeres gehäuse und 11″ und ein gescheites Touchpad - das schaut mir nach 1/3 vom 1000h aus … ihh (ich weiß ich bin verwöhnt^^)
Bei der Leistung muss man mal schauen, CPU Leistung wird sicher geringer sein, aber dafür hat er einen besseren Chipsatz und “Speziel-Co-Prozessoren” Video Beschleunigung usw …
Keine Ahnung wie das im Alltag dann ist, müsst man mal testen.
Das kein Windows läuft ist ja nix schlimmes, nur dann bitte ein Linux mit zusätzlich einer anderen Benutzeroberfläche als dem normalen Desktop, vllt wie HP MIE^^
Ubuntu soll ja auf ARM laufen
naja, 9 Zoll ist schon das richtige Format für ein nicht Windows und nicht Intel Teil. Mit 10 Zoll und mehr (und höheren Preisen) würde der Markt es nicht akzeptieren.
Wenn sich sowas auf breiter Front durchsetzt (ich würde es kaufen, mit Ubuntu oder nem anderem verbreitetem Linux) ist eher die Frage, was aus den 10 Zoll Netbooks würde - eingequetscht zwischen solchen günstigen Teilen und den aufkommenden billigen 12 Zöllern.
äh, steht doch da, dass zwar in der jetzigen version nur 9 zoll bildschirme drinnen sind, 10er aber noch kommen. Ist ja noch in entwicklung.

Was will der NORMALO User mit einem Netbook…..surfen, musik hören, emails checken und versenden und natürlich GANZ wichtig auch mal nen Film glotzen.
Also das Ding SOLLTE eingentlich einschlagen wie eine BOMBE !!!!
OK 150 € wird es wie immer D (Europa) wahrscheinlich nicht kosten aber 200 € ist auch noch akzeptabel (da ja Dollar meist immer 1 zu 1 in Euro umgerechnet werden).
Das Teil mit der MIE Oberfläche von Hp und einem 10 Zoll Display damit der Trauerrand wegfällt und ich würd auch 300 - 400$ zahlen!
Kann es sein, dass die tastaturen bei der schwarzen und weißen version abweichen?? das schwarze sieht mehr so sony/apple style aus und das weiße hat ne ganz normale tastatur, oder hab ich mich versehn?? abba schon en richtig geiles teil..
für mich das bisher interessanteste netbook überhaupt. von via hört man mal wieder nichts konkretes und der atom-einheitsbrei nervt nur noch.
Ich finds auch super, dass jetzt ein neuer Player auf dem Chipmarkt da ist und mit Ubuntu eine Linuxdistribution erste Wahl für diese Plattform wird. Mehr Vielfalt kann nur gut für die Entwicklung und vor allem für den Kunden sein. Wurde Zeit, dass das WinTel Kartell ernsthaft herausgefordert wird, zumindestens in einer Geräteklasse. Auch wenn sich die ARM-Linux Kombo nicht durchsetzen können sollte, so zwingt sie doch die Platzhirsche, ihr Angebot zu verbessern.
Da weiss ich doch entlich mal, wozu es gut ist, daß Debian auch noch andere Architekturen neben x86 unterstützt.
Bin ich froh, daß ich ohnehin nur Linux nutze. Keine Umgewöhnung einfach installieren und los geht’s. Hoffentlich wird die Festplatte eine ordentliche Kapazität haben.
Bei den ganzen neuen Netbooks gibt es jedenfalls sehr viele interessante Modelle. Endlich auch welche mit Hardware-Virtualisierung, wie MSI U115 oder die Modelle mit Nano-Cpu.
Dieses Jahr bring genau die Modelle, auf die ich gewartet habe *freu*.

Für das Geld und mit der Laufzeit würde ich es ungesehn bestellen!
Ja, sieht schon schick aus, jedoch stelle ich mal 2 Vermutungen an:
- es wird (zumindest unter dem Namen) nie nach D kommen
- der niedrige Preis wird sich wahrscheinlich auf die Verarbeitung auswirken
Allerdings: waren die nicht mal eine Tochter von Asus???
Sehr schick, sehr schick, Dass kein Win drauf läuft stört imd Grunde auch nicht, da die neueren Varianten wie Ubuntu und Xandros ja vom Aufbau her zumindest für Laien ohne Konsole eh Windows ähneln; ich kenn Leute die würden auf Anhieb vermutlich nicht mal nen Unterschied bemerken >.<. Wenn es das hier wirklich demnächst für 150 € geben sollte, dann weiß ich schon wie der Nachfolger meines Eee 701 aussieht XD.
Na, hier scheint die ursrpuengliche Idee des “Netbooks” endlich mal wieder aufgegriffen worden zu sein.
So langsam driften die heutigen “Netbook”-Modelle mit ihren Desktop-OS (Linux/XP) in das Segment Subnotebook ab!!!!
Ganz net, für Video und Flash langts sicher, die ARMs sind ja recht stark. Mit ubuntu ist das sicherlich ne gute und günstige wahl.
Mein favoriet ist Trotzdem die Pandora, etwa genauso viel leistung, viel kleiner und mit Touchscreen^^
